If you get braces as an adult, the experience will be quite different than if you got them as a kid. Because your bone tissue won’t be as malleable as bone tissue that is still developing, your treatment time will probably be somewhat longer.

Prepare for a period of adjustment

Prepare to be aching. For the first week or two after you get your dental braces, your teeth and mouth will probably be painful. A heating pad or a warm washcloth might provide relief from the discomfort in your jaw.

You’ll want to have pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen on hand if you feel any discomfort. You’ll also want to keep a supply of wax handy in case any of the wires irritates your cheeks.

Make a brace care kit

Braces need regular maintenance if you want them to last a long time. If you’re thinking about getting braces, there are a number of things to consider before committing. You’ll need to take care of them if you choose this option. One excellent method to do so is to put together a travel kit that you can carry with you everywhere.

Include a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, wax, and even lip balm in your packing list. This will ensure that you’re always prepared to clean your teeth and braces after eating if your plans change unexpectedly.

Foods to avoid with braces

When it comes to eating, keep in mind foods that might damage your braces. Keep away from sticky and chewy items as well as sweets so they don’t get caught in your braces.

Hard foods, such as hard candy or apples, should also be avoided since they might cause brackets or wires to come off. Sugar shouldn’t be consumed in excess, as it can lead to cavities and gum disease. Stick with soft meals and cut your food into smaller pieces for easier chewing.

Take good care of your teeth

Make sure you wash your teeth twice a day, as recommended by your dentist and orthodontist. You should brush at least twice a day. Brushing after every meal is preferable when wearing braces.

You should floss and use mouthwash at least once a day, and you should visit your dentist and orthodontist on a regular basis. If you don’t care about your oral health, issues can develop quickly.
